Playdate Wines - The “New Mom” Playdate
The “New Mom” Playdate
With the COVID-19 pandemic a lot of families have fled their sleepless cities and opted for suburban life for more space, new vibes and atmosphere. Having just had our baby girl in the uptick of Covid in April 2020 (#covidbaby) we were one of those families leaving behind the big Apple - NYC. While it was a bit bittersweet and not totally on our own terms, I can now look back and say it was 1000% worth it especially for the kids. While I’m not meeting too many new mom’s right now, I know I (and you) soon will which is why I am here to prepare you make that great first impression when meeting mom’s for the first time. Introducing pairings for the “New Mom” Playdate.
2018 Sparkling Wine Las Jaras | This sparkling is a HUGE conversation starter. It’s an unfiltered sparkling wine made from 100% Carignan grapes in Mendocino County. A very pure and elegant sparkling that’s easy - nothing forced all the things your new mom playdate should be! Lots of yummy apricot, surprising bits of coco and lime zest with lots of mouthwatering acidity that keeps this wine going. The label is also by an awesome LA artist Jen Stark and after looking her up I became obsessed with some of her 3D pieces - I mean imagine this label popping out of the wall! | ~$42
2015 L.A. Cetto Private Reserve Nebbiolo | This is a HUGE surprise and another one that will spark interesting conversation. A Nebbiolo, known as Piedmonte’s pride and joy, from Mexico! It’s the gift that keeps on giving with bursts of luscious red fruit, super smooth with drinkable tannins. When compared to traditional Nebbiolo’s from Piedmonte, I’m feeling this is more of a “DRINK ME NOW” version as it really didn’t need any time to open up, more fruit, less tobacco and is a little less harsh - probably because of the warmer climate. This is sure to be a NEW wine for all parties involved! | ~19
2017 Schramsberg Blanc de Blancs | You can never go wrong with a fabulous Blanc de Blancs from this epic winery. This super refreshing, extremely bright sparkling has a yummy doughy feel with almond and bursts of citrus. A historical fun fact to share during your “New Mom” playdate - the Blanc de Blancs was used for President Nixon’s 1972 “Toast to Peace” with China’s Premier Zhou Enlai. Ever since, Schramsberg’s sparkling wines have been served at official State functions by every U.S. Presidential administration. | ~$40
