The “Socially Distanced Playdate”

For better or for worse we are all too familiar with the “Socially Distanced” Playdate, outside in the park, your backyard or wherever the outdoor adventures may lead to. These playdates demand high energy and the ability to be quick on your feet. Although the idea of it is unsettling since it’s a result of a global pandemic, I actually think it’s brought a lot of silver linings to our lives and has taken us down paths we wouldn’t necessarily have taken.

When looking at pairings for this Socially Distanced Playdate, I looked for wines that are high in acidity and fruit forward to energize us! Notice I select all white wines since you may or may not be running after your children and wouldn’t want red wine to spill! Here we go!

2018 Pinot Gris Acrobat | A trio of quality, energy and approachability. Lots of yummy pear, juicy fuji apple and melon hits those taste buds straightaway. The screw cap provides ease and convenience to this quality wine which is perfect for those on the go playdates. It's also very enjoyable on it’s own so you don’t have to worry about bringing additional food if you don’t have to. Added bonus - it scored 90 points on Wine Enthusiast! | ~$15

Pazo de Senorans Albarino 2019 | Since we are looking at high acidity to give us high energy, I’d be remiss if I didn’t add a fresh and crisp Albarino from Rias Baixas to this list! This wine is medium-high intensity with freshness of flowers, freshly cut green grass, lots of citrus (lime and orange) and is super dry. It will be sure to perk your taste buds right up - off to the races! | ~$26

Ermes Pavese - Blanc De Morgex et de la Salle 2019 | Let’s talk about high energy, it’s this wine. Coming in hot from the Alpines in Valle d’Aosta, this is a high altitude Prié Blanc with lots of minerality, green apple, lingering (high) acidity and is super smooth like fresh spring water. If your kids weren’t dramatic enough, you’ll surely make a dramatic, high energy entrance with this wine and will be ready to conquer all! | ~$35
