Playdate Wines - The “Family Beachside” Playdate

The Family Beachside Playdate

It’s hard to believe but it’s true. Like spring flowers, people are starting to sprout from their homes and gather again in small groups outside for some fresh air and “socially responsible” hangouts. It’s a family affair and where I am, they are headed straight for the beach for some after school fun where the air is salty and miles of beach lie at your little ones fingertips!

This is the “Family Beachside” Playdate and its one that needs some truly special and carefully curated wines to celebrate being together again and taking in those impressive sunsets.

Keeping consistent with our theme, the wines being paired are all within the Bordeaux family having generations of family cultivation and love pouring into each bottle. Conveniently, all pair wonderfully with concession beach-fare (cheeseburgers, chicken nuggets + fries etc.), make for delicious adult indulgence and perfectly approachable for these beachside meet ups.

To help you plan and make it as easy as possible for you to get these wines, you can find these 3 Bordeaux reds via this month’s Mirabelle Selects curated wine club, a monthly wine subscription based wine club delivering small production and unique wines to your door!

Château Gaillot Fournier, Bordeaux 2015 | Forming from three generations of Zanon family, this wine is sunshine in a bottle. A beautiful blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec this beauty is ready to be sipped. The loads of dark cherry, juicy blackberry and cranberry acidity make this wine so cozy that it’s a perfect pairing for the fresh chill of the ocean breeze. Not to mention is pretty tasty with a perfectly grilled steak kabobs and fries!

Presidial by Jean Luc Thunevin, Bordeaux 2016 | Jean-Luc Thunevin is one of St. Emilion’s most respected winemakers producing some super small-production and super-high quality wines paying extreme attention to detail. Full of gorgeous raspberry, blackberry, cedar chips with approachable tannins and energizing acidity this wine is perfect to sip now and pair with those beachside burgers while watching your children nibble on nuggets with toes in the sand!

Château Puy Galland, Francs Côtes de Bordeaux 2016 | Family, tradition, heart and soul is what this wine is all about and is evident in their wines. Each grape is hand-sorted from the vineyard themselves, ensuring that everything ending up in the bottle has reached optimal ripeness (and therefore optimal quality). A lovely taste of brambly blackberry, loads of dark chocolate with drinkable chalkiness and mouthwatering berries this wine will add some elegance to your beachside playdate.
