The Sweetest Valentine’s Day S’mores Board with Cakebread Cellars

The Sweetest Valentine’s Day S’mores Board with Cakebread Cellars

Valentine’s Day is just a few days away! Whether you are celebrating with your significant other, friends, family or even just yourself, we all deserve to indulge in a little something simple and sweet on February 14th! A no-fuss Valentine’s Day S’mores board should do the trick and no baking necessary. The only real muscle you will be using for this setup will be for opening the wine and no Valentine’s Day is complete without it!

Before we dive into all the sweet details of the S’mores board let’s chat WINE. Wine and chocolate is an extremely controversial topic. Some say you can’t pair wine with chocolate, others say you can. I think there is a fine balance and it depends on what your palate can handle. While I do think sweeter wines like Tawny Port, Moscato or Sauternes pair well and are most typical, there is one other wine that is the ultimate chocolate pairing!  MERLOT. Yes, MERLOT. Merlot’s ripe plum and blueberry flavors combined with its softness enhances each bite of chocolate (preferably dark) revealing different flavors and creates an overall velvety feeling in your mouth.

When thinking about Valentine’s Day wine and the perfect pairing to this chocolatey board, I immediately revert back to my first wine love, Cakebread Cellars. Cakebread was my first experience tasting and exploring a top-tier winery!  Needless to say my life was changed.

As an iconic family name in Napa Valley, Cakebread's love is personified through their wines. Owned and operated since 1973, The Cakebread’s show their commitment to quality through their family teamwork, commitment to sustainable production, and their dedication to the vine. This is a kind of love that should be celebrated and what we all should be drinking on Valentine’s Day! The classic Cakebread Cellars Napa Valley Merlot is a fabulous pairing for this sweet board. Pop it open!

Now, let’s make a S’mores board!

First we start with the CHOCOLATE!  Everyone needs at least one bite of chocolate on Valentine’s Day. I like to mix it up with dark, milk, sea salt, raspberry, whatever strikes your fancy. Be sure to include a few pieces of dark chocolate for an ultimate wine pairing - 2018 Cakebread Cellars Merlot!

Next comes the Marshmallows!  Sprinkle large and small to add some depth and texture to your S’mores board.

Can’t forget the Graham Crackers! These are an obvious must that you can lay nicely around the board.

FRUIT! We can try to be somewhat healthy by spreading around some berries to add nutrients and color!  Also, they are great to dip in what comes next!

SPREADS! Use heart shaped dishes to hold the spreads. I use Nutella, Honey Spread and Peanut Butter!

SPRINKLE some rose petals for extra Valentine’s Day flair!
